During the Middle East Regional Rounds for the 2018 Price Moot Court Competition that took place in Zouk Mosbeh, we had a expert discussion regarding the following topic “Media Freedoms between regulations and individual rights”.

Experts that join the discussion were Jessica Dheere, Executive Director at SMEX, she talked about the Arab Digital Rights Dataset: Surfacing laws and practices affecting human rights in digitally networked spaces and Luna Safwan from Daily telegraph and freelance journalist, she talked about media freedoms, ethics and respect the of privacy, the discussion was moderated by Ahmed F. Khalifa.

Timeline

The sixth annual Middle East Regional Rounds, hosted in partnership with Notre Dame University – Faculty of Law and Political Science (FLPS), Zouk Mosbeh-Lebanon will take place from 30 January to the 2 February, 2018 in the Main Campus of Notre Dame University (NDU), Zouk Mosbeh-Lebanon (15 km away from Beirut). Registration is now closed!

Eligibility

Please note that teams from the countries/regions listed below must apply to Middle East Rounds  in order to qualify for the International Rounds in Oxford.  Teams should check which Regional Round applies to them, if there is no applicable Regional Round they may apply directly to the International Rounds.

Middle East Rounds:

Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

Access Fund

We are delighted to have the opportunity this year to provide a Middle East Moot Court Access Fund for teams from the Middle East.

This fund is applicable to teams that have registered the Middle East Regional Rounds in Lebanon 2018.

The deadline for submission of all applications for team grants is Sunday December 3, 2017  and application can be downloaded on the following link.

A grant may be awarded in order to assist teams in partially meeting costs in Lebanon for teams otherwise unable to meet these costs. Only one application form may be submitted per team and each application must have the official approval of a senior member of staff at the team’s institution. Grants are not available to offset the entire cost of a team’s participation. Estimated costs included in the application will be subject to an assessment on reasonableness.
